Notes:

  • The data given is guideline only.
  • Physical values are subject to normal manufacturing tolerances, colour and testing variances.
  • Actual drying/overcoat time depends on thickness, ventilation, humidity, temperature.
  • Values based on 30°C and 65% RH.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Surface Preparation

General

• Surfaces must be dry, clean and free from contaminants
• Remove dirt, dust, oil, grease as per SSPC–SP1 solvent cleaning
• Surface should be checked and treated as per ISO 8504 prior to priming

Blast Cleaning

Steel: Abrasive blast clean to min. Sa 2.5 (Swedish Std.)

  • If oxidation occurs between blasting & application, re-blast
  • Recommended profile (Rz): 40–70 µm

Galvanised steel: Sweep blast to roughen and remove zinc salts

Heavily pitted steel: Not acceptable

Application Conditions

• Substrate temperature ≥ 3°C above dew point but < 50°C
• Relative humidity must be above 50%
• Provide good ventilation in confined areas

Mixing

Supplied in two packs:

  • Liquid component (Hydrolysate)
  • Powder component (Zinc dust)

Mixing procedure:

  1. Do not open packaging until ready to use
  2. Loosen settled material in liquid using hand stirrer
  3. Follow with power stirrer
  4. Add zinc dust gradually into hydrolysate under continuous stirring
  5. Do NOT reverse order (leads to lump formation)
  6. Strain mixture through 30–60 mesh screen
  7. Maintain constant agitation during application
  8. Consume entire mixture within pot life
Mixing Ratio (by weight) Hydrolysate (Liquid) : Zinc Dust (Powder) = 65 : 35
Induction Time None
Pot Life @ 30°C 6 hours

Application

Brush / Roller

Not recommended

Air Spray

Parameter Specification
Recommended thinner T-144
Volume of thinner 10 – 25%*
Nozzle orifice 2.0 – 3.0 mm
Nozzle pressure 0.3 – 0.4 MPa (3–4 atm; 43–57 psi)

Airless Spray

Parameter Specification
Recommended thinner T-144
Volume of thinner 10 – 25%*
Nozzle orifice 0.48 – 0.64 mm
Nozzle pressure 15 MPa (≈150 atm; 2100 psi)

*Depends on recommended thickness and application conditions

Cleaning

• Do not allow product to remain in hoses, gun or spray equipment
• Clean equipment immediately after use with Thinner T-144

PRODUCT CHARACTERISTICS

• Keep spray gun at proper distance for smooth, wet coating
• Thinner quantity must be optimized for correct film formation
Humidity-sensitive:

  • Requires minimum 50% RH
  • Steel temperature must be ≥10°C
  • For steel temperature >40°C, add extra thinner to avoid dry spray
  • If RH <50%, curing is severely retarded
  • Cure can be promoted by spraying fresh water after 4–6 hrs and keeping it wet until fully cured

• Excess film thickness >125 µm → Mud cracking may occur
• Low film thickness affects performance
• Not suitable for immersion in alkaline (pH > 9) or acidic (pH < 5) liquids without suitable topcoats

OVERCOATING & TOPCOATS

• Overcoat only when the coating is completely cured
• Surface must be clean, dry, free from soluble salts and zinc corrosion products
• Zinc silicate primers form white rust if exposed too long; remove fully before overcoating
• Apply a mist coat as first pass to reduce solvent popping
• Recommended topcoats:
– Epoxies
– Chlorinated rubber
– Acrylics
– Polysiloxanes
– Heat-resistant silicones
– Others as advised by Asian Paints PPG

PACK SIZE

20 L

STORAGE

• Shelf life: At least 6 months at 30°C (unopened)
• Store in cool, dry place as per local regulations

REGULATORY INFORMATION

Property Value
Flash Point Liquid: ≥15°C Powder: >65°C
VOC 480 – 530 gm/ltr (as per US EPA Method 24)

SAFETY INFORMATION

• Avoid inhalation of vapours/mist and contact with skin/eyes
