RECOMMENDED SUBSTRATE CONDITIONS & TEMPERATURES

Immersion Exposure

  • Steel blast cleaned to ISO Sa 2½, profile 40–70 µm
  • Steel with zinc silicate shop primer: sweep blast to SPSS-Ss; welds & rusty areas blasted to Sa 2½

Atmospheric Exposure

  • Steel blast cleaned to ISO Sa 2½
  • Steel with zinc silicate shop primer: pretreated to SPSS-Pt3

Application Conditions

  • Substrate temperature –5°C to 50°C acceptable (must be dry & ice-free)
  • Substrate temperature must be 3°C above dew point
  • Relative humidity must be above 50% for proper curing

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

Mixing Ratio (By Volume)

Binder : Zinc Powder = 81 : 19

Mandatory Mixing Procedure

To avoid lumps and ensure proper mixing:

  1. Remove zinc powder bag from drum
  2. Shake binder container lightly to homogenize
  3. Pour ~2/3 of binder into empty drum
  4. Shake remaining binder vigorously, add to drum
  5. Add zinc powder gradually while stirring continuously (low speed)
  6. Stir thoroughly at high speed until homogeneous
  7. Strain through 30–60 mesh screen
  8. Maintain continuous agitation during application

Note: At >30°C, up to 10% THINNER 90-53 may be required.
