Surface preparation

Cleanliness

  • The surface must be dry and clean prior to application.
  • According to Hempel’s Specification.

New build:

  • A uniform anchoring profile should be achieved by suitable surface preparation method(s).
  • Remove dust, loose material and any other contamination.
  • The surface must be dry and clean prior to application.

Maintenance and Repair

  • Remove oil, grease and other contaminants by suitable detergent cleaning.
  • A uniform anchoring profile should be achieved by suitable surface preparation method(s).
  • Remove dust, loose material and any other contamination.
  • The surface must be dry and clean prior to application.

Consult Hempel’s separate Surface Preparation Guidelines for more details.

Pot life

Product temperature Pot life
20°C [68°F] 90 min

Pot life of waterborne two component epoxies and polyurethanes cannot be determined by visible changes to the coating itself. Also, unlike other coatings pot life becomes shorter with decreasing temperature. When pot life is exceeded discard remaining paint.

Application method

Roller 5% Not Applicable.

Film thickness

Specification range Low High Recommended
Dry film thickness 30 micron [1.2 mils] 50 micron [2.0 mils] 40 micron [1.6 mils]
Wet film thickness 71 micron [2.9 mils] 119 micron [4.8 mils] 95 micron [3.8 mils]
Theoretical spreading rate 14 m²/L [570 sq ft/US gal] 8.4 m²/L [342 sq ft/US gal] 11 m²/L [448 sq ft/US gal]

Application conditions

  • Surface temperature must be above 15°C [59°F] during application and curing.
  • To avoid condensation, apply on a clean and dry surface with a temperature that is at least 3°C [5°F] above the dew point.
  • Provide adequate ventilation during application and drying.
  • According to Hempel’s Specification.

Relative Humidity:

  • Relative humidity must be in the range 30-85% during application.
  • Relative humidity must be in the range 30-85% during curing.

Application remarks

  • Only demineralised or potable water, free of any contaminants, may be used for thinning.

Drying and overcoating

Product compatibility

  • Previous coat: According to Hempel’s Specification.
  • Subsequent coat: None or according to Hempel’s specification.

Drying time

Determined for dry film thickness 40 micron [1.6 mils] at standard conditions, see Hempel’s Explanatory Notes for details.
Any masking tape used during paint application should be removed while the paint is still in the wet condition.

Overcoating
Consult Hempel’s specification for more information.

Drying conditions

  • To obtain the drying time stated, it is important to maintain sufficient ventilation during application, drying and curing.

Shelf life from date of production, when stored in original, unopened containers. Thereafter, the product quality must be re-inspected.
Storage at elevated temperatures may reduce shelf life. For advice, please consult Hempel.

Storage conditions

  • Temperature must not go below 5°C [41°F] during transport and storage.
  • The curing agent is sensitive to moisture. Store in a dry place and keep the can tightly closed until use.
  • In case shelf life is exceeded, the product must be re-evaluated before use. Please contact a Hempel representative.

Carbon Footprint

Dry film thickness 1 µm 1 mil
GWP (Global Warming Potential) 9 g CO₂e/m² 0.047 lb CO₂e/ft²

The carbon footprint is for 1 square meter / square foot of surface area with a dry film thickness of 1 micron / mil.

The scope includes raw materials, in-bound transport to the Hempel factory, Hempel manufacturing processes, and any Volatile Organic Compounds emitted during and after the application of the product.

It is calculated based on the standard shade defined in this PDS.
Values may vary with shade.
