Recommended use

Hempablade Edge 172 is recommended as a final top-layer applied either during the blade factory coating application process or during field service & maintenance situations. A fast curing solution and therefore suitable when high productivity is key.

Service temperature:

  • Maximum, dry exposure only: 60°C [140°F].

Features

  • High performance rain erosion protection tested according to industry standard DNV-GL RP-0171.
  • A broad application window extending seasonality use and application efficiency. Limits annual energy production loss and noise driven by aerodynamic disturbances.

Surface preparation

Cleanliness

  • The surface must be dry and clean prior to application.

New build:

  • A uniform anchoring profile should be achieved by suitable surface preparation method(s).
  • Remove dust, loose material and any other contamination.
  • The surface must be dry and clean prior to application.

Maintenance and Repair

  • Maximum allowed concentration of water soluble salts measured according to ISO 8502-9: 110 mg/m² (NaCl equivalent).
  • Remove oil, grease and other contaminants by suitable detergent cleaning.
  • A uniform anchoring profile should be achieved by suitable surface preparation method(s).
  • Remove dust, loose material and any other contamination.
  • The surface must be dry and clean prior to application.

  • To avoid condensation, apply on a clean and dry surface with a temperature that is at least 3°C [5°F] above the dew point.
  • Surface temperature must be above 5°C [41°F] during application and curing.
  • Surface temperature must be below 35°C [95°F] during application and curing.
  • According to Hempel’s Specification.

Storage at elevated temperatures may reduce shelf life. For advice, please consult Hempel.

Storage conditions

  • The curing agent is sensitive to moisture. Store in a dry place and keep the can tightly closed until use.
  • In case shelf life is exceeded, the product must be re-evaluated before use. Please contact a Hempel representative.
